Comparisons of IT pay often mix up the average and the median, or wages in the whole industry and wages in IT occupations. We went through the latest detailed data for 2025 published by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) and the Average Earnings Information System (ISPV). All amounts are gross monthly wages in the private sector or salaries in the public sector.
What does a typical ICT specialist earn?
ICT specialists (occupation group CZ-ISCO 25: developers, analysts, database and network administrators and security specialists; why this differs from Eurostat's figures is explained in the article ICT specialists in Czechia) had an average wage of CZK 99,767 and a median of CZK 87,965 in 2025, according to the CZSO. The median is the middle wage: half of people earn more and half earn less. The average is higher because the top earnings pull it up.
39.6% of ICT specialists earned more than CZK 100,000 a month. Most of them stay below that line.

Private and public sector: a difference of CZK 36,000 in the median
| ICT specialists, 2025 | Private sector (wages) | Public sector (salaries) |
|---|---|---|
| Median | CZK 90,332 | CZK 54,203 |
| Lowest tenth (1st decile) | CZK 49,593 | CZK 40,579 |
| Highest tenth (9th decile) | CZK 166,233 | CZK 80,112 |
| Share earning over CZK 100,000 | 41.3% | 2.8% |
Source: ISPV and CZSO, 2025. A decile is the threshold below which 10% (or 90%) of people earn. The private (wage) sector consists mainly of companies; the public (salary) sector covers the state, regions, municipalities and their organisations. Only 4.1 thousand ICT specialists worked in the public sector, against 88.4 thousand in the private sector.
A typical ICT specialist in a private company earned more than the 9th decile of the whole private sector (CZK 85,087), which means more than 90% of private-sector employees. In the public sector, by contrast, even the 9th decile of ICT specialists is below the private-sector median for the same group.

Prague or the South Moravian Region?
| ICT specialists, private sector, 2025 | Prague | South Moravian Region |
|---|---|---|
| Median | CZK 101,310 | CZK 83,402 |
| Software developers, median | CZK 121,482 | CZK 90,083 |
The median in the South Moravian Region is 82% of the Prague figure. Measured against other wages in their own region, though, IT stands in the same place in both: an ICT specialist earns roughly twice the regional median in Prague as well as in the South Moravian Region.

How is pay growing in the ICT industry?
The information and communication industry as a whole, which also includes telecommunications, publishing and media, had an average wage of CZK 90,948 in the second quarter of 2026 (preliminary figure), 1.75 times the Czech average. Year on year, however, it grew by 5.6%, more slowly than the average wage in Czechia (6.4%). The number of employees in the industry fell by 0.6% year on year.
Note that pay in the industry is not the same as the pay of IT specialists. The industry also employs people outside IT, and many IT specialists work in banks, manufacturing or public administration.

Why will detailed data be missing?
2025 is the last year for which ISPV published medians and deciles by occupation. It is due to be replaced by a single monthly employer report (JMHZ). Until that is fully running, the CZSO does not publish wage medians and deciles, and mainly average wages will be available.

What does this mean for companies and specialists?
- Compare with the median, not the average. The average is pulled up by the highest earnings. The median gives a better picture of a typical wage.
- Occupation, region and sector make the difference. The median gap is over CZK 20,000 between a network administrator and a software developer, almost CZK 18,000 between Prague and the South Moravian Region, and over CZK 36,000 between the private and public sectors.
- Pay in the ICT industry is growing more slowly than the Czech average. In Q2 2026 it rose by 5.6% year on year, while the average wage in Czechia rose by 6.4% (preliminary CZSO figures). We describe the differences between men's and women's pay in the article Women in IT.
