Every year Eurostat asks companies across the EU whether they use artificial intelligence and what kind. The latest published data are for 2025 and cover companies with ten or more employees. They exclude the financial sector, agriculture, mining, public administration, education and healthcare.

How many companies use AI?
| Year | Czechia | EU |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 4.5% | 7.7% |
| 2023 | 5.9% | 8.1% |
| 2024 | 11.3% | 13.5% |
| 2025 | 17.6% | 20.0% |
In two years the share of Czech companies using AI roughly tripled. Part of the growth, however, comes from a change in the indicator: since 2025, generating images, video and audio also counts as an AI technology. Czechia ranks 17th of 27 in the EU. Denmark has the highest share of companies using AI (42.0%), Romania the lowest (5.2%).
The figure reflects the moment a company filled in the questionnaire, which in Czechia was usually between January and August 2025. Eurostat plans the next update for December 2026.

Small companies lag behind, large ones do not
| Company size | Czechia | EU |
|---|---|---|
| 10–49 employees | 13.4% | 17.0% |
| 50–249 employees | 28.8% | 30.4% |
| 250 or more employees | 54.1% | 55.0% |
Large Czech companies are on a par with the rest of Europe, and more than half of them use AI. The overall gap comes mainly from small companies.

Why do companies not adopt AI?
Eurostat does not publish the reasons for Czechia. Across the EU, companies that had considered AI but not adopted it most often cited a lack of expertise (70%), unclear legal consequences (54%) and data protection concerns (53%). Just under a fifth (18%) said AI would not be useful to them.

What does this mean for companies?
- In Czechia, AI has spread mainly as a tool for text and code. Companies start where the benefit shows soonest: marketing, sales and administration.
- Small companies have ground to make up. Among large companies Czechia is at the European level, among small ones it lags behind.
- People and rules are the main obstacles. A shortage of experts and unclear rules hold AI back across Europe. Our articles AI Act in 2026 and AI literacy for employees focus on the rules. What AI actually does for programmers is covered in the article Does AI make programmers faster?
Summary
- 17.6% of Czech companies with ten or more employees use AI (EU 20.0%). The share roughly tripled in two years, partly because of a broader definition.
- Large companies are at the EU level (54%), small ones lag behind (13% against 17%).
- Czech companies are above the EU average in generating text and code, and they use AI most often in marketing and sales.
